Binge eating refers to a one-time diet falter, an episode rather, a time when the body builder goes on an eating spree in complete disregard of the dietary constricts of his or her training program. The binge might last for days but when the body builder regains control, the binge is done with and the normal diet resumes. At most times, binge eating is prompted by circumstantial events like parties, dates, night outs and even holidays. Binge eating usually happens when the food is around the body builder in large quantities and when there is company that entice the body builder to slacken his or her discipline.
An eating disorder on the other hand is a permanent occurrence that becomes engrained into a habit. The eating becomes a part of the daily routines and absolute control of the bodybuilding diet is lost, forever. An eating disorder can actually be defined as a tendency to eat far too much or even to little than is recommended or is normal for the body builder. Eating too much is what body builders do, most often. Unlike the binge, eating disorders happen day in day out, unless the habit is overcome by conscious attempts.
It requires no company, enticement or even events to prompt the body builder to eat. In fact, they eat more while alone than when they have company. We are talking about eating becoming a way of life, an addiction. While the binge eating body builder might actually recall what he or she ate during the binge, and how much of it, the one with an eating disorder have no recall about what was eaten yesterday and in most times he or she does not care anymore. The binge eater can even count the amounts of excess calories eaten during the binge while the body builder with an eating disorder cares not about calories but about the volume of food.
Another key difference between them is that, the binge eater eats because of enjoyment. The food is good, attractive and enjoyable at the time. The body builder with an eating disorder eats as a result of stress, shame, regret and guilt. In most cases the one with an eating disorder does not enjoy the food even but just fees compelled to eat some more. Eating disorders is a syndrome accompanied by disappointment in the self, low self esteem, high sense of guilt, stress, depression, anxiety, tension, nervousness and moodiness.
For the binge eater, foods can of various types especially junk foods. Oily foods are more often attractive, fries and the like, and therefore more often eaten during the binges. On the other hand, for the body builder with an eating disorder, the foods mostly ingested are carbs. These are frequently sugars and starches found in most snacks.
Getting over an episode of binge eating is very easy, since the next day after the binge is actually enough to amend the mess. An eating disorder however is a habit that takes every ounce of will power, support, determination and discipline. It takes time to correct an eating disorder since it most often than not, involves a complete, radical lifestyle change.
